Emirati Environmental Delegates Are At A UN Conference Discussing How To Protect The Region’s Natural Resources

Avatar

A UN conference is being attended by 196 states on how to protect (and sustainably use) the world’s natural resources.

The UN Convention on Biodiversity is currently ongoing in Egypt and UAE has sent delegates to the conference

Addressing the High-Level Segment, the lead delegate of the UAE team stated: “Protecting wildlife has been a priority issue since the establishment of the UAE, and is a cornerstone of the country’s policies towards protecting and developing the environment.”

And even though UAE is known for its skylines and concrete jungles, there is a LOT of natural beauty in the country that has to be conserved.

Policies to preserve these resources are currently being worked on

There are also ongoing discussions between world experts on how to push countries towards being more sustainable in terms of their consumption habits (including the food people eat).

A major issue being discussed is how to reduce plastic wastee and meat consumption.

Since meat makes up such a major part of the diets in so many parts of the world (including the UAE) but is terrible for the environment (forests have to be cut down to create pastures for grazing).

UAE, however, has seen a push in more sustainable and vegan eating options in recent years.
