A Study Reveals The Top 10 Costliest Cities… And Abu Dhabi Isn’t On It!
Living in the UAE, particularly in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, you get to see the lavish lifestyle that many residents have. It’s so common to come across crazy expensive cars on the street and people wearing designer clothing from head to toe. But does that mean that the UAE is expensive to live in? A study was conducted to determine which cities are the costliest to live in.
The annual study ranked 227 cities from across 5 different continents, measuring the cost of more than 200 items in each location. Including housing, transportation, food, clothing, household goods and entertainment.
The Mercer’s Cost of Living 2023 report was released on Tuesday and it indicated that Dubai and Abu Dhabi are not in the top 10 of the costliest cities

Dubai and Abu Dhabi were ranked 18th and 43rd costliest cities in the world, jumping by 13 and 18 places, respectively
The study analyzed the prices of 10 kitchen essentials like butter, cooking oil, and sugar and in Dubai, these items rose by 23.5%, 6.9% and 3.8%, respectively.
The rankings of almost all the cities in the Gulf increased due to the rise in the cost of living.
“Tel Aviv remains the costliest city in the Middle East for international employees, ranked 8th on the global ranking. The next most expensive cities in this region are in the United Arab Emirates, namely Dubai (18) and Abu Dhabi (43), both of which have seen fairly significant increases in their rankings since last year. Saudi cities such as Riyadh (85) and Jeddah (101) have also jumped up the global list, by 18 and 10 spots respectively.” The report reads.
