Jordan and Syria Teamed Up for a Campus Collab at University of Jordan

The University of Jordan got a little extra buzz on October 14, 2025, as it welcomed a high-profile Syrian delegation led by Marwan Al-Halabi, Syria’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The visit was all about exploring new ways to team up on academic projects and share some serious brainpower between the two countries.

University President Nathir Obeidat and his crew—including Vice Presidents and heads of quality assurance—sat down with the Syrian delegation to chat about everything from joint research to the latest in digital learning. The spotlight was on developing tech-driven programs, modernizing curricula, and bringing artificial intelligence into the classroom. Obeidat highlighted the university’s open-door policy for collaboration, mentioning cool projects like the History of the Levant program with Damascus University. The hope? To make academic ties even stronger.

Syrian delegation checked out cutting-edge centers

The Syrian guests didn’t just talk shop—they got a grand tour of the university’s top facilities. Stops included the Stem Cell Therapy Center, where Abdullah Obeidi Al-Abadi explained how the team tackles tough diseases, plus a peek inside the Molecular Biology and Advanced Microscopy labs. They also swung by the Daycare Clinical Unit and the Center of Excellence in Learning and Teaching, where Director Raed Al-Taher showed off the university’s digital education upgrades.

Leaders praised progress and looked to the future

Minister Al-Halabi gave a shoutout to the University of Jordan’s achievements, calling it a regional role model and expressing big interest in more collaboration. The Syrian side, which included Deputy Ministers Abdel Hamid Al-Khaled and Abeer Qudsi, plus other top officials, was all about exchanging expertise, boosting research, and building up academic skills. Both sides left the meeting excited about what’s next for Jordanian-Syrian academic teamwork.
