City Activates Maximum Readiness Ahead of Storm Amman Declares a Full Weather Emergency

Amman has activated a full emergency plan as a major weather system arrives this week. Stay safe and stay updated, everyone. 🌧️🇯🇴

Amman is gearing up for some wild weather! The Greater Amman Municipality has just declared a full weather emergency, starting Wednesday morning, as a major storm system rolls in. Residents are being asked to stay alert and follow some handy tips to keep the city safe and dry.

City declared maximum readiness

Officials kicked off the emergency plan on June 12, with the city going into maximum water alert. The municipality is urging everyone to secure construction materials, check drainage outlets in basements and shops, and make sure goods are protected from leaks. The goal? Keep rainwater flowing and avoid any unwanted indoor swimming pools!

Precautionary guidelines shared

  1. Secure all building materials to stop them from blocking drains.
  2. Inspect drainage outlets in lower floors and shops.
  3. Protect your goods and stores from leaks.
  4. Don’t open manholes or storm drains.
  5. Keep waste and plastic bags out of the streets to help the drainage network do its thing.
  6. Don’t connect rooftop downspouts to the sewage network—nobody wants a flood!
  7. Secure anything that could fly away in the wind, like zinc sheets and ad boards.
  8. Stay away from electricity sources in public spaces.
  9. Keep an eye on official weather updates and warnings.

Emergency contacts and final reminders

If you need help during the storm, just call the Amman Municipality’s hotline at 102 or 117180. The city’s winter campaign is in full swing, so let’s all do our part to keep Amman safe, dry, and ready for whatever the weather brings!
