Jordan’s incredible cultural heritage came to life this weekend as His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II joined the closing ceremony of the fourth Jordan Camel Racing and Nabataean Poetry Festival. Held in the mesmerizing Wadi Rum, this event brought together traditional camel races and poetic performances, creating a vibrant homage to Jordan’s Bedouin legacy.
Nothing quite compares to Wadi Rum’s desert beauty, especially when it’s filled with Jordan’s beloved traditions. Crown Prince Hussein spent Sunday immersed in the desert’s awe-inspiring setting, surrounded by hundreds of excited spectators cheering on the final laps of the camel races. Each race felt like a tribute to the strength and endurance symbolized by these magnificent animals—a bond that goes deep in Jordan’s cultural roots.
The festival wasn’t just about speed and skill; it was also a celebration of words. Along with honoring the winners of the camel races, Crown Prince Hussein presented awards to the top poets in the Nabataean poetry competition. This poetry, which reflects the beauty and resilience of the desert life, added a heartfelt dimension to the festival’s atmosphere, with powerful verses capturing Jordan’s unique spirit.
Among those attending were notable Jordanian leaders, underscoring the event’s significance. Senate President Faisal Fayez, Royal Hashemite Court Chief Yousef Issawi, and Adviser to His Majesty for Tribal Affairs Kneiaan Bluwi joined Crown Prince Hussein in supporting this celebration of heritage. Key officials from Aqaba, including Chief Commissioner Nayef Al Fayez and Governor Khaled Hajjaj, were also there to honor the winners and take in the event’s one-of-a-kind atmosphere.
The Jordan Camel Racing and Nabataean Poetry Festival goes beyond just sports or performances—it’s an annual gathering that brings together Jordanians to celebrate, reconnect, and take pride in their cultural history.
Crown Prince Hussein’s active participation reflects his commitment to keeping these traditions alive, allowing Jordanians of all generations to reconnect with the Bedouin values that define the nation’s heritage. With each race and verse, the event deepened Jordan’s connection to its past while fostering a shared vision for the future.
