Jordan has closed all three of its land border crossings with Israel following a deadly shooting at the King Hussein Bridge (Karama Bridge) on Sunday. A Jordanian truck driver, 39-year-old Maher Al-Jazi, fatally shot three Israeli security guards at the commercial cargo area before being killed by Israeli forces.
This incident, the first of its kind at the border in 27 years, occurred at a key crossing between Jordan and the Israeli-occupied West Bank.
In response, Israeli authorities detained several Jordanian truck drivers at the scene. The Jordanian Ministry of Interior launched an investigation into the matter, while Israeli forces imposed heightened security in the West Bank city of Jericho, affecting Palestinians on route to Jordan.
On Tuesday, Jordan reopened the King Hussein Bridge. However, the crossing remains closed for cargo movement, and the PSD has urged travelers to follow instructions to avoid delays.
The reopening eases some restrictions, but tensions remain high due to ongoing escalations between Jordan and Israel over the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Hamas praised the attack, calling it a demonstration of Arab rejection of Israeli occupation, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the violence, describing it as “cold-blooded terrorism.”
The event has further strained relations between the neighboring countries, with regional security concerns continuing to escalate.
