A New School Year Begins

As summer winds down, Jordanian students are heading back to school. On Sunday, 18th of August, 1.6 million students returned to public schools, while 600,000 private school students will begin their classes on September 1st. This marks the start of the 2024/2025 academic year, and the Ministry of Education has assured that all preparations are in place for a smooth start.

Strengthening Education through New Initiatives

The Ministry of Education has been proactive in ensuring that the academic year begins on the right foot. A total of 2,039 new teachers, including 905 BTEC-certified educators, have been appointed to bolster the teaching workforce. The Ministry has also completed the construction of 20 new schools across various governorates, providing much-needed space and resources for students.

Moreover, tenders have been issued for the construction of additional classrooms in 24 schools, with an investment of JD6 million. Maintenance work has also been prioritized, with 473 schools across the Kingdom receiving upgrades at a total cost of JOD 15 million. This significant investment underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure.

Educational Recovery and New Policies

This academic year also sees the introduction of an educational recovery program, aimed at addressing learning gaps from previous years. The program includes two weekly Arabic language classes and 10 minutes of mathematics practice in each session, helping students build a stronger foundation in these critical subjects.

Additionally, a new attendance policy has been implemented, allowing students to miss no more than 10 percent of the school year. With classes set to begin at 8:00 am each day, this policy is expected to improve student engagement and overall academic performance.

Looking Forward

As schools reopen, the focus remains on delivering quality education and ensuring that all students have the resources they need to succeed. With new teachers, upgraded facilities, and targeted educational programs, Jordan is poised for a productive and successful academic year. The Ministry of Education’s efforts reflect a broader commitment to educational modernization and student well-being, paving the way for a brighter future for all Jordanian students.
