During a recent visit to the historic city of Jerash, King Abdullah emphasized the city’s role in showcasing Jordan’s cultural diversity and rich heritage. Accompanied by Crown Prince Hussein, the King met with local community leaders to discuss the importance of tourism in Jerash and its potential for creating entrepreneurial and income-generating projects for residents. He urged the community to invest in these opportunities to ensure a promising future for the governorate.

In his address, King Abdullah highlighted the recent parliamentary elections as the completion of the first phase of political modernization in Jordan. He expressed hope that this would be a step towards a more platform-based partisan parliament aligned with Jordanians’ aspirations. The King also stressed the importance of continuing economic and administrative reforms to achieve comprehensive development throughout the Kingdom.

Reaffirming Support for Palestinians

The King reiterated Jordan’s unwavering support for Palestinians, particularly in Gaza and the West Bank, and rejected any attempts at the forcible displacement of Palestinians. Under the Hashemite Custodianship, Jordan will continue its historic role in safeguarding Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem. The King also stated Jordan’s readiness to firmly respond to any attempts to undermine its sovereignty.

Inaugurating New Initiatives

During the visit, King Abdullah inaugurated the Regional Centre for Training in Maintenance and Restoration in Jerash. The center, supported by a three-million-euro grant from the Italian government, aims to enhance local skills in antiquities conservation and restoration. Crown Prince Hussein emphasized the importance of sustaining the center’s efforts to meet the expectations of Jordan and its neighboring countries.

King Abdullah bestowed the Silver Jubilee Medal on various individuals and institutions in Jerash in recognition of their contributions to the local community and the nation. This gesture, along with the King’s focus on both preserving heritage and promoting modernization, encapsulates Jordan’s ongoing efforts to balance tradition and progress.
