Passengers Were Stuck on the Plane for Hours After an RJ Flight From Amman to NYC Was Diverted to Boston

A Royal Jordanian flight from Queen Alia International Airport to JFK in New York made an unexpected emergency landing in Boston this week — but what happened next is what really sparked confusion.

According to passengers on board, the flight (RJ261) was diverted due to turbulent weather. But upon landing in Boston, things got strange.

One passenger told Lovin Amman that they were kept on the plane for hours after landing — with little to no information about what was going on. Cabin crew reportedly had no details to offer, and passengers said even the pilot didn’t seem sure what was happening next.

People on board grew increasingly anxious as they waited inside the plane, with no communication from Royal Jordanian during or immediately after the ordeal.

A Regular Flyer Notices Something’s Off

Yara, a Jordanian-American who flies this route regularly to visit her family, said this experience felt completely out of the ordinary. She told us that once they were finally allowed off the plane, passengers were left scrambling for answers on their own.

She said no email or official communication was received from Royal Jordanian, and her baggage went missing for a time — only adding to the frustration.

What Caused the Diversion?

As of now, the only official explanation given to passengers was “turbulent weather.” The airline has not yet issued a public statement about the incident or addressed the confusion that followed.

Passengers Still Waiting for Clarity

Many of those on board say they felt abandoned by the airline, citing the long delay, lack of updates, and logistical issues once they landed in Boston instead of New York.

NOTE: This report is based on firsthand passenger accounts. If you were on board flight RJ261 and had a different experience, we’d love to hear your story too.
