So did anyone see the rockets over Amman yesterday? No? You must have been living under a rock then! Starting around 7:40 PM yesterday (October 1st), rockets from Iran were seen traveling across Amman’s night sky towards Israel.
Quick rundown? Israel killed some Iranian affiliated leaders in Lebanon; this was retaliation.

Now, this isn’t the first time Iranian rockets have flown across Jordan’s airspace, and just like last time, the Jordanian government assisted in shooting down the missiles. This was to ensure, at least as much as possible, that the missiles and their shrapnel didn’t fall on residential areas. Fragments still rained down heavier this time, as there was much less warning (last time Iran gave a big heads-up before launching), and just the sheer amount of rockets was much more. Rockets definitely fell across Jordan, with videos emerging in Sahab—where a light rocket with flames pouring out of it was seen—Ajloun, Al-Salt, and even the airport road (hopefully, we didn’t scare the tourists that much!).

This information was released in a statement from the Jordanian Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission, which said it had “temporarily closed the Kingdom’s airspace to all flights (incoming, outgoing, and transiting).”
Hytham Mesto, the head of the Commission, emphasized that the decision was made “due to the escalating situation in the region, which poses risks to flight operations and passenger safety.”
Mesto also said: “This precautionary measure would be reviewed based on ongoing developments and risk assessments.”
The Jordanian airspace opened up a couple of hours later.

The funniest thing was honestly how the Jordanians reacted to the whole affair, and in a very Jordanian way, just had a little fun:
Jordanians were seen laughing, dancing, and just generally having a party as the rockets flew by. Of course, it was stressful, but the general motto for Ammanis is, “if it gives us trauma, let’s make fun of it
