King Abdullah & Oman Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Meet in Amman

On Wednesday, His Majesty King Abdullah  welcomed Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman at Marka Airport, marking the beginning of Sultan Haitham’s state visit to Jordan. The official welcoming ceremony included Prince Feisal bin Hussein, Prince Hashim bin Hussein, and Prince Mired bin Ra’ad, along with some Royal Jordanian jets as Sultan Haitham’s aircraft entered Jordan.

Following the reception, King Abdullah hosted an official dinner in honor of Sultan Haitham, with the Crown Prince in attendance. The two leaders held talks at Basmah Al Zaher Palace, discussing regional developments.

During the talks, both monarchs expressed the importance of finding a solution to the urgent situation in Gaza, calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the protection of civilians, and the intensification of efforts to deliver humanitarian aid without delay.

King Abdullah reiterated the necessity of urgent international action to halt the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza. He highlighted the dangers posed by the Israeli military operation in Rafah and its potential to escalate the conflict across the region.

Diplomatic Honors

As a nice tidbit about purely Royal news, Sultan Haitham presented King Abdullah with the Order of Al Said, the highest Omani order. In return, King Abdullah awarded Sultan Haitham the Order of Al Hussein bin Ali, the highest civilian order in Jordan.

Economic News

On Thursday, Jordan and Oman signed a mutual investment agreement & formalizing the relationship between the Oman Investment Authority (OIA) and the Social Security Investment Fund (SSIF) with Jordan investors. Discussions are underway regarding a direct shipping line between the Port of Aqaba and Omani ports.
