Here\u2019s an overview of who the winners and losers are:<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"350\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2594\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.lovin.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/05\/23105708\/1-4.png\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.lovin.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/05\/23105708\/1-4.png 700w, https:\/\/cdn.lovin.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/05\/23105708\/1-4-medium.png 250w, https:\/\/cdn.lovin.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/05\/23105708\/1-4-120x60.png 120w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h2>The &#8220;Ahl Al-Hemmeh&#8221; list, representing the Islamic movement, secured nine out of 18 seats.<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2>The National Campaign for Student Rights \u201cThaba7toona\u201d secured 4.<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2>The remaining seats were secured by independent candidates.<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The increased support for Ahl Al-Hemmeh at JU could be due to the recent events in Gaza, with the party organizing charity drives for Gaza in the past months.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Fakher Daas, coordinator of the National Campaign for Student Rights \u201cThaba7toona\u201d (Arabic for \u201cYou\u2019re killing us\u201d), stated on Thursday that the results of the student elections at the University of Jordan (JU) were \u201cexpected\u201d and \u201cunsurprising\u201d and that a \u201cvoid has formed\u201d which he claims has been \u201cexploited by regional, tribal, and local affiliations.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Videos showed acts of rioting and vandalism inside the university campus during the election.<\/h2>\n<p>The university had urged its students not to form or participate in any gatherings that might disrupt the electoral process or hinder students from reaching the ballot boxes, warning that such actions would violate electoral regulations.<\/p>\n<p>University President Dr. Nazir Obeidat stated, &#8220;JU is committed to enhancing the democratic process in Jordan and expanding the base of student participation, considering students as the future leaders capable of bringing about positive change.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"So the student elections at the university happened today.
