The Baghdad Governorate has announced that the ongoing projects for Baghdad as the Arab Tourism Capital (2025) will transform the city into a global tourist destination. These projects are aimed at enhancing the city’s infrastructure and services, which citizens will begin to notice by the end of this year.

Governor Abdul Muttalib Al-Alawi stated, “The selection of Baghdad as the Arab Tourism Capital for 2025 marks a key step in restoring the country’s tourism prominence, as it has always been a leader in this field.” He emphasized that Baghdad will become a major hub for delegations, visitors, and tourists eager to explore the capital’s rich heritage, magnificent history, and ancient civilizations.

Al-Alawi further explained that the governorate will launch a campaign to improve the infrastructure in areas housing tourist and heritage sites in the capital. These sites will not only attract visitors to the city but also to the entire region. Additionally, efforts will be made to prepare historical sites, including shrines and graves of scholars, to welcome visitors and delegations eager to learn about the figures who contributed to significant advancements in various fields of knowledge and literature.

The governor also stressed that by the end of this year, Baghdad will experience significant progress in its service levels as all plans for the city’s role as the Capital of Culture are implemented. Furthermore, programs and events will be launched to highlight Baghdad’s outstanding cultural significance, especially as its cultural center houses rare books, documents, and manuscripts from various historical periods, underscoring Baghdad’s ongoing role in promoting domestic tourism—not just during the Arab Tourism celebrations but year-round.
