This week, Fallujah witnessed the graduation of the city’s first female officer from the Higher Military Institute with the rank of lieutenant, following in the footsteps of her father’s military career.
This achievement highlights the unwavering support and empowerment she received from her family across various fields, despite societal pressures that typically discourage women from entering the security service.
According to lieutenant Maryam, she traveled a long hard road to get to where she now is. From the city of Fallujah’s Mahamda tribe, she got her bachelor’s degree in law before heading off to the Higher Military Institute
About her monumental rank, she said: “I hope to follow in the footsteps of my father, Lieutenant Colonel Salah Muhammad Abdel. I think he’s considered one of the symbols of the military corps in the city.”
Maryam also expressed her full readiness to serve her country.
