Iraqi and Estonian PMs Pave the Way for AI and IT Cooperation

The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, and the Estonian Prime Minister, Kaja Kallas, recently engaged in discussions aimed at bolstering cooperation in the fields of information technology (IT) and artificial intelligence (AI). The meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference (MSC) 2024 in Germany, highlighted the mutual interest of both nations in leveraging technological advancements for socio-economic development.

During the meeting, both Prime Ministers, accompanied by officials from their respective governments, explored avenues for enhancing bilateral relations, particularly focusing on areas such as e-government, IT infrastructure, and the application of AI in various sectors, including agriculture. Estonia, renowned for its innovative e-governance solutions, offered its expertise to support Iraq in advancing its digital capabilities.

One of the key outcomes of the discussion was the agreement to facilitate a technical exchange between the two countries. Iraq will send a delegation to Estonia to delve into the intricacies of AI and IT implementation, seeking to learn from Estonia’s best practices and experiences. This collaboration underscores the commitment of both nations to harness technology as a catalyst for progress and modernization.

Furthermore, recognizing the importance of sustained engagement, Iraq and Estonia agreed to establish a bilateral committee tasked with exploring opportunities for deeper cooperation. This committee will serve as a platform for continuous dialogue, enabling the identification of synergies and the formulation of joint initiatives aimed at mutual benefit.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to address broader regional and international issues, including the presence of the international coalition in Iraq. Estonia, a participant in the coalition, reiterated its commitment to supporting Iraq’s security efforts while acknowledging the evolving capabilities of the Iraqi security forces. Discussions regarding the gradual withdrawal of international forces, in consultation with the United States and other coalition partners, reflected the shared objective of promoting stability and sovereignty in Iraq.

The dialogue between the Iraqi and Estonian Prime Ministers signifies a step forward in fostering bilateral cooperation in the realms of AI and IT. By capitalizing on each other’s strengths and expertise, both nations are poised to unlock new opportunities for innovation and progress. As technology continues to redefine the global landscape, partnerships such as this serve as a testament to the transformative power of collaboration in driving sustainable development and prosperity.
