The Horticulture Department of the Ministry of Agriculture announced that the research team within the national program for the propagation of fruit and olive species was able to obtain high oil percentages reaching 18% from the “Bekwal”, “Giraffa” and “Saint Catherine” olive varieties, after it was less than 10% during the past years.
The Ministry of Agriculture/Department of Horticulture, through the National Program for the Propagation of Different Types and Varieties of Fruits and Olives, achieved impressive results in olive oil production this year.
The Ministry added that the research team was able to obtain high oil percentages of 18% from different olive varieties such as “Bekwal”, “Giraffa” and “Saint Catherine”, which is considered a historic achievement in the olive sector in our country.
This achievement came after 3 years of hard and diligent work that included collecting fruits from several regions and using different presses to ensure obtaining the best results, despite the challenges faced by farmers in the past years, as the oil percentage was less than 10%, but the diligent work and continuous guidance from the Ministry and the Department of Horticulture yielded very positive results that contributed to improving production and strengthening the agricultural sector.
