Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani has officially launched the Baghdad Forest Project, a groundbreaking environmental initiative aimed at creating Iraq’s largest urban forest. The project, to be developed on the site of the former Al-Rasheed Camp, will span an impressive 12 million square meters, making it the first of its kind in Iraq and one of the most significant in the region.

During the launch ceremony, Al-Sudani emphasized that the project represents a critical step in addressing Iraq’s environmental challenges. The forest will not only serve as a green haven for Baghdad’s residents but also as a major cultural and economic hub. Its design includes spaces for tourism, cultural activities, and economic ventures, with the project expected to generate 80,000 diverse job opportunities. The inclusion of advanced environmental technologies, such as water treatment and emission reduction systems, will ensure the project’s long-term sustainability.

Al-Sudani also emphasized that residential expansion in Baghdad will not come at the expense of green spaces. The government is working to develop new residential cities, such as the Ali Al-Wardi and Al-Jawahiri cities, on the outskirts of the capital, ensuring they include ample green areas.
