Bahrain’s Leaders Offer Condolences After ‘Sleeping Prince’ Dies Following A 20-Year Coma

Prince Al Waleed bin Khaled, known fondly as the ‘Sleeping Prince,’ sadly passed away after remaining in a coma for over two decades following a severe car crash. This somber news prompted leaders from Bahrain, including His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, to extend their deepest sympathies to Saudi Arabia’s King Salman.

The long slumber concluded

Prince Al Waleed was only fifteen years old when a devastating car accident in London led to severe brain injuries and internal bleeding. Despite receiving care from top doctors, he never regained consciousness, spending more than twenty years in a persistent vegetative state. His prolonged sleep became a poignant story across the region.

A royal family’s grief

The late prince was the son of Prince Khaled bin Talal and a nephew to the well-known billionaire Prince Al Waleed bin Talal. His passing brought immense sorrow to his family and many who had followed his story, highlighting the deep emotional toll of his long battle.
