Bahrain Deports Over 250 Illegal Workers After Recent Inspections

Avatar

In its ongoing commitment to uphold labor and residency laws, Bahrain continues to reinforce strict visa regulations, particularly for foreign residents and workers. Since 2010, Bahrain has rigorously monitored visa practices, with authorities investigating cases of fraudulent documentation and background checks to address irregularities in residency and employment.

From November 3 to November 9, 2024, the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) led an extensive campaign, conducting 1,481 inspection visits and campaigns across the Kingdom. These inspections led to the detention of 30 workers violating labor laws, while 257 others were deported for residency or employment-related violations.

Recent inspections continue to uncover several breaches

During the time of the investigations, the LMRA, together with various government bodies, launched 1,457 inspections of shops across all governorates, complemented by 24 joint campaigns. These joint efforts included 14 campaigns in the Capital Governorate, six in the Muharraq Governorate, and four in the Southern Governorate.

A collaborative effort from multiple government entities

Agencies involved included the Ministry of Interior (represented by the Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs), respective Police Directorates in each governorate, the General Directorate of Crime Detection and Forensic Evidence, and the General Directorate of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing. The Coast Guard, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, and the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority also played significant roles in enforcing compliance.

These inspections are crucial to maintaining stability, ensuring that unauthorised employment practices do not compromise the economic and social security of the country.

By eliminating irregularities, the LMRA aims to strengthen competitiveness within Bahrain’s labor market, enhancing the Kingdom’s attractiveness as a fair and regulated employment environment.

The LMRA encourages public support in stopping these illegal labor practices. Citizens and residents can report suspected violations through the electronic form available on the LMRA’s website at www.lmra.gov.bh, via the call center at 17506055, or through the government’s Suggestions and Complaints System (Tawasul).
