A light earthquake rattled parts of Bahrain in the early hours of Monday morning, causing a rare moment of shock for many residents, especially those living in Central Bahrain, just north of Askar. The tremor struck at exactly 2:58 AM Bahrain local time, registering a magnitude of 3.3 on the Richter scale.
This earthquake, while noticeable, is considered a minor event. No injuries or significant structural damage have been reported across the Kingdom, and it’s being classified as a rare occurrence for the region.
Here’s the thing: Bahrain is generally seen as a low‑risk area for earthquakes. The region sits on what geologists call the “stable craton” of the Arabian Plate, meaning the land doesn’t usually crack or shift violently compared with more active regions.
Over the years, Bahrain has only recorded a handful of minor tremors within its territory, with most felt-shakes often traced back to distant earthquakes stirring activity in nearby regions like southern Iran.
