Talk about a risky move!
As reported by News of Bahrain, a 34-year-old man is fighting a five-year prison sentence, a BD5,000 fine, and permanent deportation after getting caught using stolen bank cards to buy digital currencies and clear a company’s tax bill. Now, he’s appealing the verdict, with the High Criminal Court of Appeal set to rule on March 24.
That’s some high-stakes fraud!
Authorities say he wasn’t working alone. Prosecutors believe he teamed up with unidentified accomplices to pull off the scheme, using someone else’s electronic signature to access the funds. Investigators linked him to the transactions through an international card company, which flagged the suspicious activity.
The scam started to unravel when banks confirmed the payments were fraudulent, and cardholders reported unauthorized charges. Even after getting busted, the man refused to snitch on anyone else involved.
