In a surprising turn of events, Awais Hanif, the country manager of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) in Bahrain, was arrested recently. The arrest reportedly stems from allegations of mishandling passengers’ luggage, which has sparked attention and concern.
Initial reports suggested that Hanif was taken into custody over accusations of stealing passengers’ luggage. However, a PIA spokesperson swiftly clarified that there was no criminal intent involved. The spokesperson attributed the incident to the absence of a dedicated PIA office at the Bahrain airport, leading to misunderstandings regarding luggage handling procedures.
In response to the situation, PIA issued an official statement expressing regret over the misunderstanding. The airline reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high standards of service and integrity, and emphasized that they have been cooperating with Bahraini authorities to quickly resolve the issue.

A statement released by the embassy described the incident also as a misunderstanding and assured that legal assistance has been sought to defend Hanif’s case in court. Both PIA and the Bahraini authorities are expected to provide further updates as the legal process progresses.
