Worried You’re Underpaid? Bahrain’s Wage Protection System Has Your Back!

Hera Shabbir

Good news for workers in Bahrain—if you suspect you’re being underpaid, you can now verify your wages and challenge salary violations with full backing from the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA)!

The LMRA is stepping up its Wage Protection System (WPS) to keep employers in check and make sure everyone gets the pay they’re promised.

This system tracks salary payments to ensure companies pay through banks or approved financial services, making it easier to spot any shady business

Every employer must transfer salaries using licensed providers under Ministerial Decision No. 68 of 2019, no cash under the table! The LMRA works with the Social Insurance Organisation (SIO) to match actual wages with insurance records, making it harder for companies to fake lower salaries. So if an employer underpays or delays salaries, they risk penalties, work permit suspensions, or even losing the right to hire foreign workers.

How can you double-check on your salary?

  • Check your wages through the system to ensure they match what’s in your contract.
  • File a claim at the Protection and Grievances Centre: labour cases are exempt from fees, so you don’t have to pay to get what’s yours!
  • Track disputes online with the Ministry of Justice’s digital system.

At the end of the day, Bahrain is making it crystal clear….fair pay is non-negotiable.

If you’re working hard, you deserve every dinar of your salary.
