With biometrics becoming the future, and Saudi already scrapping boarding passes in their airports, Bahrain has also caught up to the game.
The new e-passport features a security chip that stores the biometric information of the passport holder. This includes details of fingerprints, face detection, eye-scanners, and more.
Minister of Interior, General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, stated that the new project is set in place to ease traveling and commute for nationals in and outside the country. The e-passports will be split into four categories of the ordinary, diplomatic, special, and travel document passport, which will all have validity of 10 years.
As reported by Arabian Business, the new passport will remain the striking red, the primary color of the Bahraini flag, and will feature a gold emblem. The bottom of the passport will include an icon that contains the biometric chip of each passport holder.
