Bahrain MPs Have Approved Extended Maternity Leave For Working Moms

In a significant move to support new mothers, Bahrain’s MPs have unanimously approved an extension to paid maternity leave in the private sector!

This initiative aims to provide new mothers with more time to recover after childbirth, and bond with their new borns.

The details of the proposal

The initiative was introduced by four female MPs, Hanan Fardan, Jaleela Alawi, Basma Mubarak, and Maryam Al Saiegh. They emphasized that the early weeks postpartum are crucial for both maternal recovery and infant care, with scientific studies having linked extended maternity leave to a lower risk of postnatal depression!

The new law now grants 10 extra days

The new law now grants working mothers in Bahrain 70 days of paid maternity leave, up from the previous 60 days. There’s also been the option for an extra 15 days of unpaid leave that remains unchanged, that gives mothers further flexibility.
