Four swimmers have made history by completing the epic Bahrain Swim Challenge – Abdulla Atiya, Fatima Al Mahmeed, Mariam Bin Laden, and Donaldson Andrew swam an incredible 180 kilometres around the entire island, surpassing their original 170km target.
Their achievement was celebrated at a medal ceremony held at Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea and Spa, attended by His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, Chairman of the General Sports Authority, and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee.

HH Sheikh Khalid commended the swimmers, mentioning that their achievement was a powerful message to the youth of Bahrain – a true reminder of the importance of ambition, determination, and resilience.
Hosting unique sporting events like this, he added, strengthens Bahrain’s growing reputation on the regional and international sports stage.
The Bahrain Swim Challenge officially began at 4 AM on Wednesday morning, with the swimmers setting off from Sofitel Zallaq. Taking a counter-clockwise route around the island, they passed through Bahrain Bay and other major landmarks, embracing the challenge of open water and unpredictable conditions.
The athletes rotated every three hours, swimming continuously for nearly 60 hours, ultimately completing 180 kilometres in 59 hours, 59 minutes, and 6.52 seconds.

The swim was live streamed online, with official observers and support crews closely monitoring the athletes. Medical and technical teams were on standby to ensure the swimmers’ physical well-being, providing support whenever needed..
