A new exhibition in Beirut called ‘Grab my Bowls’ is putting a creative twist on the everyday bowl. Nine Lebanese artists are showcasing handmade ceramic pieces using local clay, turning something simple into something special.
The Clay Stories Collective was formed in March 2024 by three ceramists who love working with Lebanese clay. Thanks to a UNESCO grant, they launched two successful shows — one about tableware, the other about lighting — and they’ve been growing ever since.
For their third project, the team decided to focus only on bowls. With summer coming, they asked nine artists to rethink this common object and create one-of-a-kind pieces using Lebanese clay.
The clay used in the show comes from the Chouf mountains and has been passed down through generations. It takes time and effort to prepare, but the collective believes in its beauty and wants more artists to use it.
These bowls are more than just kitchen items — they’re works of art. The show encourages people to see everyday objects in a new way, and the artists are proud to highlight the creative power of Lebanese pottery.
