Lebanon’s Benjamin Hassan Makes History At Roland-Garros

Lebanon is turning heads in the world of tennis — and Benjamin Hassan is leading the charge! The 29-year-old just pulled off something incredible: he qualified for the main draw of Roland-Garros, becoming the first-ever Lebanese player to do so on the iconic clay courts of Paris. What a proud moment for Lebanese sports fans everywhere!

How He Did It

To make it into the main draw, Hassan had to battle through three tough qualifying matches. His final win came against Japan’s James Trotter, where he sealed the deal with a 7-6, 6-2 victory. After a nail-biting first-set tie-break, Hassan found his rhythm and dominated the second set with his sharp backhand and solid serve.

A Big Moment for Lebanese Tennis

This milestone marks the beginning of a new chapter for tennis in Lebanon. Earlier this year, Hady Habib became the first Lebanese player in decades to qualify for the Australian Open. Now, with both Hassan and Habib reaching Grand Slam main draws, it’s clear that Lebanese tennis is on the rise.

Who Is Benjamin Hassan?

Born in Germany in 1995, Benjamin Hassan holds dual nationality but proudly plays for Lebanon. He didn’t follow the traditional tennis path — he turned pro at 22, after spending time on the amateur circuit. That patience and hard work paid off: he’s now playing at the highest level, representing Lebanon at the Olympics, on the ATP tour, and now at Roland-Garros.

Different Paths But Same Pride

While Hassan advances, Hady Habib’s run ended in the second round of qualifiers after a close match. Still, the national pride is strong. The president of the Lebanese Tennis Federation personally congratulated Hassan, recognizing the historic achievement made not just for himself — but for the love of Lebanese tennis.
