A Woman Tells The Pope Leo XIV How Unity Kept Lebanese Together During The War

When times got tough in Lebanon, unity was the secret ingredient that kept everyone going. At a special youth meeting with Pope Leo XIV, stories of kindness and togetherness took center stage, reminding everyone what it means to be one big family.

Shared laughter and tears brought people together

A woman stood before the crowd and shared, ‘When my home was destroyed, we cried together.’ She summed up the Lebanese spirit with a few heartfelt words: We lived love. We lived pain. We lived laughter. We lived tears. Like one family. Through every high and low, the Lebanese people stuck together, proving that even in the darkest moments, a little unity goes a long way.

Hospitality crossed all boundaries

Rokayya Faqih, a mother from the South, took the stage to share her unforgettable story. She described fleeing her home with her children, not knowing where to go. But God had other plans—she met Muntaha, a Christian woman who opened her door and her heart. Without asking about religion or background, Muntaha simply said, ‘My house is your house.’ That moment of pure hospitality showed how, in Lebanon, kindness knows no boundaries.

Support shined in the hardest moments

Rokayya recalled how people stood by her when she needed it most. The crowd, including Lebanon’s First Lady Naamat Aoun, applauded warmly, celebrating the power of unity and support. These stories are a reminder that, in Lebanon, standing together is more than just words—it’s a way of life.
