Beirut Design Fair Makes A Comeback After Four Years Of Economic Crisis!

Diana E.

After a four-year break due to Lebanon’s economic meltdown, the Beirut Design Fair has returned. The event, called We Design Beirut, featured works from over 150 designers and artisans in various locations, including some damaged by the 2020 Port Explosion.

The fair first began in 2010 but paused in 2019 due to Lebanon’s severe economic crisis, which the World Bank called one of the worst in recent history.

This year’s fair also focused on sustainability, showcasing pieces made from recycled materials. In an abandoned textile factory in Beirut’s Armenian district, university students displayed a large installation made from recycled plastic, shaped like a volcanic eruption.
