When the Lebanese University closed its doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the academic life came to a halt. However, creativity did not stop. From the depths of this crisis that affected the whole world, a grant was given to revive one of the symbols of artistic work in Lebanon, the “Sabayat” band.

The idea emerged from a group of students who wanted to create an artistic project to combat boredom and bring back the life that COVID-19 had taken from many. Some students decided to play music, sing, and film themselves performing. They shared these artistic clips on their own page, led by one of the students, Elena Naddour.

The videos carried messages of hope, represented through applause, laughter, singing, dancing, and playing instruments performed by more than five young women. These videos received an incredible response that exceeded the students’ expectations, which encouraged Elena and her colleagues to create more.The students presented their artistic works over nostalgic songs, reviving the names of great figures in the Lebanese music scene.

The young students chose the beautiful name “Sabayat” for their band. They were invited to TV interviews to talk about their journey, beginnings, and artistic careers. Currently, the Sabayat band is participating in festivals and music concerts, and their star is shining in the sky of the Lebanon.

These beautiful young women continued their hard work and efforts despite all the crises and circumstances. They believed that life does not stop, hope remains despite all the challenges, and light is always present. They proved that talent knows no age limits.
