Recently, many people in Lebanon have experienced severe coughing, fatigue, sore throats, shortness of breath, headaches, and body aches.
Even though COVID-19 cases are low in Lebanon—only 20 hospital beds are occupied—a new variant called FLiRTLB1 has shown up. This variant, which was first found in the US, comes from the Omicron family and seems to spread more easily. It might also dodge protection from vaccines or past infections.

To deal with this new variant, health officials in Lebanon are boosting their testing efforts. They’re working with the World Health Organization (WHO) to get more testing tools and keep an eye on a wider range of viruses.
In the meantime, it’s important to stick to basic precautions: cover your mouth when you cough, keep your distance from others, and maintain good hygiene.
