The Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) have refuted recent reports suggesting that they have withdrawn from their positions along the southern border with Israel. In an official statement released today, the army clarified that while they have adjusted their positioning, this does not signify a retreat but rather a strategic realignment within their assigned operational sectors.
Media outlets had circulated reports earlier, claiming that the Lebanese Army had moved several kilometers away from the border in response to the ongoing Israeli military operation. However, the LAF emphasized that this repositioning is being done in coordination with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and is part of a broader defensive strategy. “Our forces are repositioning some frontline observation posts, but we remain fully operational and ready to defend,” the statement read.

The developments come after the Israeli military launched a limited ground operation in southern Lebanon during the early hours of Tuesday. The operation, according to “Israeli” sources, is focused on neutralizing Hezbollah’s positions along the border, which they claim pose an immediate threat to settlements in northern Israel.
In conjunction with the offensive, Israel also issued evacuation orders for residents living in areas close to the border. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have stated that the aim of the operation is to dismantle Hezbollah’s infrastructure and reduce the threat posed by the group’s presence in the region.
Lebanon’s military continues to work closely with UNIFIL, which has been stationed along the southern border since 1978. The international peacekeeping force plays a critical role in monitoring the border area and de-escalating conflicts between the two sides.
