Late Tuesday, an Israeli airstrike hit the southern suburb of Beirut, a Hezbollah stronghold, with four missiles. The attack destroyed a four-story building and damaged nearby structures and cars.
The Israeli military stated the strike was retaliation for the occupied Golan Heights attack on Saturday that killed 12 children and teenagers.
Lebanon’s Health Ministry reported that two children, aged 4 and 6, were killed in the attack, and their bodies were found during the rescue operation, in addition to a woman who had been reported dead earlier.
The number of injured has increased from 68 to 74, and they were provided medical aid in Beirut hospitals; 65 people were released from hospitals, while the rest require surgery.
The removal of the debris continues; eyewitnesses believe that the death toll may still increase.
Israel claims that it killed top Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr in the attack, while Hezbollah hasn’t confirmed his death but states on Wednesday morning that the building in Dahiyeh is still being cleared, and Shukr status remains unknown.
Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati condemned the attack and described it as a “criminal act” in a “series of aggressive operations killing civilians in clear and explicit violation of international law.”
