Germany Cancels The Arrest Warrant Against Riad Salameh

Diana E.

In a qualitative European judicial development, former Lebanon’s Central Bank governor Riad Salameh won a lawsuit against Munich’s prosecutor general, who issued an arrest warrant against him and circulated it to Interpol.

On June 10, 2024, the seventh chamber of the Munich regional court canceled Salameh’s arrest warrant issued in Germany on May 15, 2023, and defrayed the state treasury to cover the case costs.

The German judiciary will contact Interpol to cancel the circulation of the arrest warrant, which took place a year ago.

Legal sources confirm that the decision is a significant European judicial victory for Riad Salameh.

It is expected to prompt reviews of numerous legal proceedings in countries like Germany, France, and Luxembourg, where there were alleged violations in his prosecution.
