Lebanese Cabinet Approves An Increase In Minimum Wage For Private Sector Employees

Diana E.

Lebanese Labor Minister Moustafa Bayram revealed on Thursday that the government has approved an increase in the official minimum wage for the private sector to 18,000,000 LBP, which is equivalent to around $200 based on the current exchange rate.

This decision, representing a pivotal development in the country’s economic policy, involves doubling the minimum wage in the private sector, elevating it to 18 million Lebanese pounds.

Effective immediately, this increase marks a significant improvement from the previous minimum wage of 9 million pounds.

Notably, the revised minimum wage is fully declared to Social Security and integrated into the basic salary structure.

Despite this decision, there has been widespread frustration expressed by the public, with many considering the increase unfair and inadequate.
