Lebanon Files Complaint With UN Against Israel Over Ceasefire Violations

Diana E.

Lebanon’s Foreign Ministry filed a complaint through its mission in New York against Israel for violating resolution 1701, the ceasefire agreement, and related security arrangements.

Resolution 1701, passed on August 11, 2006, demands an end to hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel and the creation of a weapons-free zone in southern Lebanon, except for the Lebanese army and UNIFIL.

The complaint detailed Israel’s violations in southern Lebanon, including ground and air attacks, destruction of homes, abduction of civilians and soldiers, and assaults on people returning to their villages.

It also mentioned Israel’s targeting of Lebanese army patrols and journalists and the removal of five border markers along the Blue Line, calling these actions clear violations of resolution 1701 and Lebanese sovereignty.

The ministry urged the UN Security Council and ceasefire sponsors to take a firm stance against Israel’s violations and to support the Lebanese army and UNIFIL forces.
