Lebanon Prepares To Launch Its Second Airport By Summer

Lebanon is buzzing with excitement as plans for its second international airport, Qlayaat Airport, are set to take off by summer! This new airport promises more travel options and a boost for the country’s infrastructure and economy.

How the airport will be built

Minister of Public Works and Transport Fayez Rasamny confirmed that Qlayaat Airport will be developed under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model. A private investor will finance and manage the project, making sure everything from construction to initial operations runs smoothly. This approach reduces the government’s financial burden while bringing in private expertise.

A private touch before government handover

Once the airport is built, the private investor will handle day-to-day operations for a set period—covering everything from passenger services to maintenance. After that, control will be handed back to the government, ensuring that the airport becomes a public asset while benefiting from private sector efficiency early on.

Countdown to summer

Everyone is looking forward to the airport’s grand opening. Qlayaat Airport will improve Lebanon’s connectivity, ease pressure on Beirut Airport, and create new travel routes. It’s expected to boost tourism, business travel, and local jobs—a real win for the country.
