Lebanon Pushes For School Continuation Despite The Ongoing Israeli Aggression

Diana E.

Lebanon’s Minister of Education, Abbas Halabi, announced that the academic year will officially begin on Monday, November 4, 2024.

Private schools can choose remote learning if they have the resources, but they are responsible for in-person classes. Halabi also called on them to reconsider tuition fees.

He confirmed that classes at the Lebanese University will stay suspended due to the crisis, which has affected both public and private schools, with many being used as shelters.

The ministry is working with national and international bodies to gather support for saving the academic year.

Some private schools believe education must continue despite the challenges, and Halabi stressed the importance of keeping students’ learning on track.

He remains committed to saving the school year, hoping for a ceasefire with the help of national leaders and allies.

However, Halabi urged the education sector to recognize the severity of the situation and the difficult choices ahead.
