Lebanon’s Tourism Sector Faces Major Losses Amid Ongoing Conflict

Diana E.

Due to the ongoing war in southern Lebanon, the tourism industry is taking a massive hit, with losses estimated at over $3 billion.

Jean Beyrouthi, the Secretary General of Lebanon’s tourism institutions, highlighted how hard the hotel sector has been hit, with occupancy rates dropping below 20%.

He also mentioned that restaurant visits have been cut in half, and beach resorts and car rentals have seen a similar decline of over 50%.

Beyrouthi pointed out that the situation in Lebanon and the surrounding region is having a big impact on tourism, causing serious damage across the board.

These challenges are expected to continue affecting the tourism industry, particularly hotels and travel, at least until next spring, according to Beyrouthi.
