U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that an agreement has been reached with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to begin a 10-day ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel.
Trump said the ceasefire will take effect at 5 p.m. U.S. East Coast time, adding that he will invite both Netanyahu and Aoun to the White House for what he described as the first serious talks between Israel and Lebanon.

He noted that representatives from both sides had already met in Washington on Tuesday in the presence of Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Trump also assigned Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary Rubio, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine to work with both parties toward what he called a “lasting peace.”
Earlier, Lebanon’s presidency confirmed a phone call between President Aoun and Trump, during which Aoun welcomed U.S. efforts to secure a ceasefire. Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam also welcomed the announcement, calling it a long-standing Lebanese demand since the beginning of the conflict.
