Benjamin Hassan made history on Sunday by becoming the first Lebanese tennis player to win a match at the Olympics.
The 29-year-old pulled off an impressive victory against Christopher Eubanks from the United States, who was once a Wimbledon quarter finalists and is ranked in the top 30, 6-4, 6-2.
Hassan, currently ranked 170th in the world, was born in Germany after his father, Zaki, fled the Lebanese civil war in the 1980s.
Even though he was born in Germany, Hassan has represented Lebanon in the Davis Cup since 2018. On Sunday, he enjoyed the energetic and enthusiastic support from fans on Court 11, which helped him secure the win.
