Netflix’s New Cleopatra Documentary Sparks Controversy In Egypt

Raghad Khaled

Netflix released the official trailer of their Queen Cleopatra documentary which will be available on the famous platform on May 10th.

However, ever since the release of the trailer, Egyptians have been going into a frenzy because of the casting choice of Cleopatra.

The trailer shows Cleopatra as a woman of African descent with dark skin, which falsifies the fact of Cleopatra is of Macedonian Greek descent.

The trailer led Egyptians to openly criticize the movie for instilling Afrocentric ideology which refuses to actualize Egyptian history, put it at risk, and discredits the entire ancient Egyptian civilization!
