It’s the fifth encounter between Egypt and Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations. The two teams have met three times in the group stages and once in the final, which Egypt won (1-0) in 2010. However, Both teams find themselves in a very tricky position of having to win Thursday’s match since Egypt was held to a 1-1 draw by Mozambique in their AFCON opening game, while the Black Stars were stunned 2-1 by Cape Verde.
Here are the match’s most prominent highlights in case you missed it:
Mohamed Salah’s AFCON journey may be over due to the injury that happened during the first half of the match. Salah asked for a substitution and left the pitch. Later, The Egyptian Football Association announced that the player will not be participating in the next two matches after sustaining a hamstring injury during Egypt’s match against Ghana.
Arsenal player, Mohamed El Neny receives various critics over all social media platforms. His performance is thought to be below average which angered Egypt National Team’s fans.
Mahmoud Trezeguet, Mostafa Mohamed, and Emam Ashour’s performances were jaw-droppers! Emam Ashour’s defensive skills saved the team from a potential goal from the black stars. On the other hand, Mostafa Mohamed beat the keeper from close range after a beautiful solo effort from Trezeguet to score the equalizing goal.
Egypt forward Omar Marmoush lauded his teammates’ fighting spirit that led to the team’s 2-2 draw against Ghana. All eyes have been on him since the day of the match as he managed to impress the audience and the players themselves.
Marmoush expressed, “We play like a team, attack in a block, and defend in a block. It doesn’t matter who scores or who assists; the most important thing is that the team wins. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to claim the full points tonight.”
