The Sea Story, carrying 45 people—including 31 tourists of diverse nationalities and 14 crew members—was on a multi-day diving trip when it sank near the coastal town of Marsa Alam. Renowned for its breathtaking coral reefs and marine life, the Red Sea is a magnet for diving enthusiasts, making this incident a shocking disruption to what many had anticipated as a bucket-list adventure.
Authorities received a distress call at 5:30 a.m. local time on Monday, setting in motion a coordinated rescue operation led by the Red Sea Governorate. Governor Amr Hanafi confirmed that some survivors were plucked to safety using a helicopter and promptly taken for medical care. The Egyptian navy and army have also joined forces to locate more survivors. The journey began in Porto Ghalib, Marsa Alam, on Sunday, with plans to end in Hurghada Marina on November 29.
With 16 lives already saved, hopes remain high for additional rescues as authorities work tirelessly against the clock. For now, the focus is on ensuring every effort is made to bring as many people to safety as possible.
