Lion, 10 Dogs, and 25 Cats Found in Villa in Maadi

Authorities found an unusual assortment of animals in Maadi—an 11-month-old lion, 10 dogs, including some ferocious breeds, and 25 cats—inside a villa.

The incident began when a police officer noticed a lion perched atop a villa wall while a security patrol was inspecting the area. The sighting was also captured in a video circulating on social media, which prompted immediate action.

Upon investigation, authorities confirmed that the villa housed an unlicensed lion and 10 licensed dogs. They identified the villa’s owner as a well-known 55-year-old businessman who operates a tourist village and is known for raising exotic animals.

Documents for the lion revealed that it was 11 months old, with a birth certificate and up-to-date vaccinations. Alongside it, the villa contained 10 dogs of various breeds and 25 cats.

The Wildlife Department of the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture moved the lion because private ownership is prohibited. The Assistant Minister of Interior for the Cairo Security Sector made a detailed report and sent it to the Public Prosecution Office for further investigation.

However, this is not the first time..

A few months ago, residents discovered a lion that had escaped from its owner’s home and was spotted in New Cairo. This incident caused panic among the local residents and raised concerns for the lion’s well-being. Many believe that such animals should not be kept at home, as they are not suited to living among people.
