A video of a student dancing in front of professors and colleagues during his graduation ceremony at the Faculty of Commerce, Zagazig University, has sparked controversy across Egypt.

The footage, which shows the student celebrating as he receives his certificate, has ignited mixed reactions from the public. In response, the university has decided to refer the student for investigation.

University Statement

Zagazig University announced it will investigate the student involved and released the following statement: “We are addressing the video circulating on social media, which shows a graduate acting inappropriately and breaching university traditions and customs during a graduation ceremony in the Celebration Hall at Zagazig University Stadium.

Meanwhile, the university emphasized the importance of upholding university traditions, customs, ethics, and public morals, which are core values instilled in all students.

The statement continued: “We acknowledge that this incident was an individual act of joy by the student upon his graduation. However, it exceeded the general and acceptable norms and did not align with the university’s esteemed position as a center of knowledge and scholarship. Consequently, the university assured  the investigation, “we investigated the incident and referred it for further action”.

However, this is not the first time a student has danced like this during graduation. A month ago, a girl at Assuit University appeared in a video dancing at her graduation party. The university issued a statement saying that the party was not affiliated with the university and was a private event among students.

On the other side, some people believe that it is acceptable to dance at graduation parties, as it is a form of celebration and happens only once in a lifetime.
