A United Nations Official Praises Egypt’s Swift Efforts To Aid Gazans

During an interview with United Nations Radio, Laila Bakr, the Australian-Somali Regional Director of the United Nations Population Fund in the Arab States, thanked Egyptians for their efforts to support the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

The Regional Director said, “We thank the State of Egypt for its openness, assistance, and support for this situation,” stressing, “If it were not for Egypt, there would not have been any door of hope or entrance to deliver aid.”

She also confirmed that the level of disaster and the number of people in need of aid exceeded the capabilities of any country, even the United Nations itself, and if there was the possibility of accessing all the resources to save the lives of 2.2 million people.

We are trying to help in a very difficult moment, and provide people with the minimum assistance they need, including water, electricity, fuel, medicine, and food,” she added.

She stressed: “The most important thing now is a ceasefire, and allowing not only the entry of this aid, but also the rebuilding of Gaza, and helping the people remain in their homes in safety and without any fear.”
