Abdullah Rushdy is no stranger to controversial takes; the ex-Azhar Imam is widely known for his extreme female-centric beliefs and criticism of the feminist movement. On multiple occasions, Rushdy has been accused of having extreme beliefs that do not align with modern-day ideologies; ideologies that promote harassment against women, and sometimes render them as inferior beings.
So, when the widely criticized preacher released a statement insinuating that working women often indulge in inappropriate behavior with their bosses and mistreat their husbands, he got his fair share of criticism and backlash.
In a tweet, Abdullah criticized female workers: “Miserable is the woman who does what you see…she makes her work and fawning over her boss more important than obeying her husband! Your husband and obeying him first, then work tenthly, also with your husband’s permission and taking into account Sharia’s controls on mingling and clothing.”

His statement generated a lot of backlash from users who criticized his approach and rendered him “primitive and bigoted.” Others claimed that focusing on female employment when an economic crisis is taking place is insensitive and chooses to focus on trivial matters.
It’s worth mentioning that The Ministry of Endowments prevented Abdullah Rushdy from preaching as he adopted misguided ideologies and preached religion inaccurately to create meaningless debates.
