Yesterday, in Marsa Alam, Red Sea Governorate, three British divers from The United Kingdom were swept away by a current just before they finished their dive near the Brothers Islands.
The ministry explained that while the divers were making a safety stop at a depth of five meters and preparing to return to their yacht, they were swept away by the current. The current carried them approximately 15 nautical miles (Approx 25 KM) away from the island and the yacht they were on with the rest of their tour group.
Immediately, following the instructions of Mr. Sherif Fathy, the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, who closely monitored the situation and the progress of the search operations, the ministry, through its Central Administration for Hotel Establishments, Shops, and Tourism Activities, promptly reached out to all relevant authorities. They informed the Search and Rescue Center and the Egyptian Navy about the incident and coordinated necessary actions for a swift search for the three divers.
The Search and Rescue Center promptly dispatched an aircraft to the island to search for the divers.
Additionally, the Diving and Marine Activities Chamber, along with several yachts from diving and marine activity centers in Hurghada, joined in the search efforts.
Thankfully, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities confirmed that the divers were found safe and sound. This successful rescue was made possible through the efforts of various agencies, including the Search and Rescue Center of the Ministry of Defense, the Egyptian Navy, and several diving and marine activity centers in Hurghada.
